I already knew this deal was subsided and could not be moved. My fate was in his hands. Well, I thought to myself I might at least make through what I have at home for the last night. That night my mom cooked up a huge meal. Rabbit stew, potatoes, steaks, loaves of bread and rice. My mom only cooked like this for special occasions, but I guess this event could coincide with special occasions. My mom started up with the prayer then my dad went on how Oh I am a grown man now, I have a job, he'll miss me around the farm and blah blah blah. I almost wanted to leave after hearing his speech. I was really in a bad mood though so you can't blame me. My mom just forced me into a job she knew I didn't like without my consent. That just got me pissed off. Later that night after I got my bags packed, I tried lying down in my bed to sleep in it for the very last time. It was hard and in the end I found that it was impossible for me to fall asleep. As the hours went by I kept thinking what I will be doing as a spook's apprentice. My mind passed killing witches and stuff but I couldn't help but wonder that I am risking my life doing this job. I could get killed, but what the heck it's worth a shot. Be fore I knew it the clock struck six. It was morning and the aroma of my favorite breakfast was already blasting into my face. Bacon, eggs and bread. When I got downstairs I received a huge hug from my mother and was sent to sit by the table. I had a plate and dug in for seconds. After all it was my last day here, I should have some special privileges. As I quickly devoured my second plate and was going for my third there was a loud knock on the door. It was the spook. My mom tried to talk him into having breakfast with us to kill time but he kept declining. Well time for my farewell. I grabbed my cloak and head out the door. It wasn't much of anything but my mom and dad just hugged me and told my their byes followed by the I love you's followed by the good luck. What I didn't expect was that my dad gave me his tinderbox. He never even lent anyone that and now he's giving it to me. Wow. " Take good care of it for me will yuh." he said. My reply was obvious " I sure will. Bye, love you.
There was no carriage or transportation we had to walk about one hundred miles by foot. We were half way when we stopped for a break. We were going to spend the night here and I didn't like one thing about it. As we pushed aside some hay to make a comfortable enough bed the spook started telling a story about the farmhouse we were staying in. He said " long there was a cemetery here. After the great war between the two counties were over they buried all the dead bodies over here. In total there was over forty two thousand of them. A few years later some company from overseas came here looking to build a factory. They destroyed the cemetery and built the industry right on top of it. The disturbed souls as predicted by me got up from their graves and haunted the men out of their socks. They soon ran out of business and bravery to stay here. They left the place and had it taken down thinking that the ghosts would go down with it. They were wrong, everyone with half a brain known you can't destroy a ghost that was rather ghosts. Just two years ago, today some farmer that didn't believe in paranormal activity built this very farmhouse here. Soon the ghosts scared the crap out of him and he left, learned a lesson to. So watch as you sleep tonight you may have some uninvited visitors." I really didn't know if it was his intention to scare the wits out of me but he did. I couldn't sleep that night but after walking almost fifty miles I was forced to.
I awoke the next morning by hearing galloping. There was horses somewhere near. Suddenly I realized My body was vibrating. I got out of the covers and startled, I realized that we were on a carriage. When I asked the spook what was going on he said that there were to many ghosts for him to handle in there and that we were two minutes away from his house. We soon arrived and I was amazed at the size of his house. It wasn't a house it was a mansion. When we got in The spook warned me that he has an invisible witch in the kitchen cooking food and to not ever go in there. He showed me to my room and I quickly unpacked. He said to hurry up because dinner was going to be ready in five minutes. If I was late there was no food. I hurries it up a little. When I came to the head of the bed my attention was drawn to the wall. It was full with words and there was hardly any space between them. I looked closer and soon realized that it was not just words, they were names. TOM! I ran downstairs and sat at the table. The spook looked angry but he stayed quiet. Food was on the table. I started eating. While eating I began to ask him questions about the names on the wall. I said " while I was unpacking I noticed that there was at least one hundred names on the left side wall. Do you know anything about that?" " Yes" he replied. " those names were not just names they were the names of all the apprentices I took on before you. I could tell they were more brave than you and they could never be replaced so don't show any attention to the topic." " What happened to them?" I asked. " They died. They were killed by witches and boggarts."
" All of them? "
" Yes."
" I'm sorry."
" You should be."
" Tom, I am growing old and I might not be able to train any more children, so I am hoping to train you into being the next professional spook. Tom I have had my fare share in this business and have had enough. After you I am not training any more kids. I'm to old.Tom. you, are,
The Last Apprentice."
