The Last Apprentice: Revenge Of The Witch

It was a dark night, rain was pouring and I was nervous. I could hear the groans and moans of the ghosts of the civil war union solders. I am 16 but I'm scared, I can't sleep. I call my mom into the room she understands my problem and tries to comfort me. Nothing works so she goes the extra mile to solve my problem. She is the bravest person I ever met. No one in the village dares to go next to hang man hill but she just walked out of the house and the last I could see of her was my mom walking up towards the hill. I waited an hour then another then finally out of the dark of the night she walked through the door and calmly said " everything's alright now go back to sleep." At first I was amazed at what she had done but then I was far more curious. I was wondering what she had done up there, just then I realized that the voices of the soldiers were gone. I don't know what had happened or how it happened but I couldn't stay awake to find out. My eyes slowly closed and I was so tired that as soon as my head hit the bed I fell asleep. My mom's name is Elizabeth Jessica Parker and is not the typical type of one. She lets no one learn of her past. The only one who knows about her is my dad. All I have ever been able to recover is that my dad met my mom in a forest and saved her life from then they started hanging out and soon got married.

My name is Tom Ward and I am 16 years old. I reside in a rather large farm house located in the village of Chipenden. I am not like all other teenagers for I have a curse a very horrible curse that I may hate while others may love. I am the seventh son of a seventh son. I know you're thinking that's pretty cool but what does that have to do with a curse? Whats so bad with that? Sorry to disappoint you but by being the seventh son of a seventh son I am able to see and hear paranormal activity. Other normal humans do not see what I see and do not hear what I hear so they may not understand the problems I'm going through. Along with this curse or gift I have been given I have a responsibility. It is my job to try to help ghosts to cross over by talking it into them. Well at least that's what my mom says. I am the youngest of brothers so I get caught up with most of the chores. My other brothers are 27, 25,23,21,19 and 17. All my brothers were born two years apart except for me and the second youngest John. My mom doesn't tell anyone this it's just that John wasn't meant to be he was an accident. She doesn't like saying this but she knows it's true. Anyway my dad is getting old and as a family tradition he has to look for jobs from my oldest brothers to the youngest which is me. Sadly all my brothers were token on as apprentices to locksmiths and blacksmiths and poulterers but I have been left out. All the jobs in the village have taken up and there is none left for me. None left other than being the apprentice of the town's spook. A spook is someone who hunts demons, witches as well as ghosts and ghouls and terminate them. No one hangs around him or even feels safe around him, but the truth is that they need him, without him all paranormal beings would take control of them and destroy humans.

My dad would only put me there if he was desperate and I really didn't want him to, but the fact is to be the spook's apprentice would be a job fit for the seventh son of a seventh son because to be a spook you must be a seventh son of a seventh son. In fact my dad doesn't want me to go with that job but my mom wants me to go with that. I don't know why, but she has been very interested in it. So, my mom calls the spook in and he observes me he asks me a few questions like, " What do you think about being a spook?" and so on. He then explains things about the job to me, to see if I really want to join him. He told me that the job is really hard and very lonely. You are not allowed to trust anyone nor hang out with anyone. While he kept rambling about the job I kept thinking, hey give me a break. This job is hard enough as is and now you're taking my friends and family away, back off! Just then out of nowhere I mistakenly blabbered out "what about my family?" He then stood up and embarrassed me to the most. " haven't you thought you're child any manners Mrs. Parker. Speak when spoken to and otherwise shut up." " ye..yes sir." I have never felt that mistreated before especially from someone I hardly even knew. Well, now I know what my life is going to be like if I go with him . Apparently I don't have a choice any more because my mom already told him that I'll take the job. Why on earth would she do that. She better have a good reason. All he said before he left was that it'll be 20 gold coins each year to take me on and that he'll be back for me tomorrow.

I already knew this deal was subsided and could not be moved. My fate was in his hands. Well, I thought to myself I might at least make through what I have at home for the last night. That night my mom cooked up a huge meal. Rabbit stew, potatoes, steaks, loaves of bread and rice. My mom only cooked like this for special occasions, but I guess this event could coincide with special occasions. My mom started up with the prayer then my dad went on how Oh I am a grown man now, I have a job, he'll miss me around the farm and blah blah blah. I almost wanted to leave after hearing his speech. I was really in a bad mood though so you can't blame me. My mom just forced me into a job she knew I didn't like without my consent. That just got me pissed off. Later that night after I got my bags packed, I tried lying down in my bed to sleep in it for the very last time. It was hard and in the end I found that it was impossible for me to fall asleep. As the hours went by I kept thinking what I will be doing as a spook's apprentice. My mind passed killing witches and stuff but I couldn't help but wonder that I am risking my life doing this job. I could get killed, but what the heck it's worth a shot. Be fore I knew it the clock struck six. It was morning and the aroma of my favorite breakfast was already blasting into my face. Bacon, eggs and bread. When I got downstairs I received a huge hug from my mother and was sent to sit by the table. I had a plate and dug in for seconds. After all it was my last day here, I should have some special privileges. As I quickly devoured my second plate and was going for my third there was a loud knock on the door. It was the spook. My mom tried to talk him into having breakfast with us to kill time but he kept declining. Well time for my farewell. I grabbed my cloak and head out the door. It wasn't much of anything but my mom and dad just hugged me and told my their byes followed by the I love you's followed by the good luck. What I didn't expect was that my dad gave me his tinderbox. He never even lent anyone that and now he's giving it to me. Wow. " Take good care of it for me will yuh." he said. My reply was obvious " I sure will. Bye, love you.

There was no carriage or transportation we had to walk about one hundred miles by foot. We were half way when we stopped for a break. We were going to spend the night here and I didn't like one thing about it. As we pushed aside some hay to make a comfortable enough bed the spook started telling a story about the farmhouse we were staying in. He said " long there was a cemetery here. After the great war between the two counties were over they buried all the dead bodies over here. In total there was over forty two thousand of them. A few years later some company from overseas came here looking to build a factory. They destroyed the cemetery and built the industry right on top of it. The disturbed souls as predicted by me got up from their graves and haunted the men out of their socks. They soon ran out of business and bravery to stay here. They left the place and had it taken down thinking that the ghosts would go down with it. They were wrong, everyone with half a brain known you can't destroy a ghost that was rather ghosts. Just two years ago, today some farmer that didn't believe in paranormal activity built this very farmhouse here. Soon the ghosts scared the crap out of him and he left, learned a lesson to. So watch as you sleep tonight you may have some uninvited visitors." I really didn't know if it was his intention to scare the wits out of me but he did. I couldn't sleep that night but after walking almost fifty miles I was forced to.

I awoke the next morning by hearing galloping. There was horses somewhere near. Suddenly I realized My body was vibrating. I got out of the covers and startled, I realized that we were on a carriage. When I asked the spook what was going on he said that there were to many ghosts for him to handle in there and that we were two minutes away from his house. We soon arrived and I was amazed at the size of his house. It wasn't a house it was a mansion. When we got in The spook warned me that he has an invisible witch in the kitchen cooking food and to not ever go in there. He showed me to my room and I quickly unpacked. He said to hurry up because dinner was going to be ready in five minutes. If I was late there was no food. I hurries it up a little. When I came to the head of the bed my attention was drawn to the wall. It was full with words and there was hardly any space between them. I looked closer and soon realized that it was not just words, they were names. TOM! I ran downstairs and sat at the table. The spook looked angry but he stayed quiet. Food was on the table. I started eating. While eating I began to ask him questions about the names on the wall. I said " while I was unpacking I noticed that there was at least one hundred names on the left side wall. Do you know anything about that?" " Yes" he replied. " those names were not just names they were the names of all the apprentices I took on before you. I could tell they were more brave than you and they could never be replaced so don't show any attention to the topic." " What happened to them?" I asked. " They died. They were killed by witches and boggarts."
" All of them? "
" Yes."
" I'm sorry."
" You should be."
" Tom, I am growing old and I might not be able to train any more children, so I am hoping to train you into being the next professional spook. Tom I have had my fare share in this business and have had enough. After you I am not training any more kids. I'm to old.Tom. you, are,
The Last Apprentice."

Reseacrch for MY Novel Project

1. Are demons and ghosts actually real?

Many people will say that ghosts are real and many may not. Infact there is realistic informtion detailing exactly why ghosts are real but there are come backs explaining why they're not. There are many television shows that are mainly about why paranormal activity is real and I believe that it is real. There is way to much facts and infromation to explain why ghost life is real rather than not.

2. Are witches and spellcasters actually real?

Witches and witchcraft are indeed real. There has been many cases in which witches have killed innocent men and have recieved the the most cruel punishment of all, death. In 1642 witch craft were punishable by death in Conneticut. Many witches have confessed and explained exactly how they do witchcraft.

Burr, George Lincholn. Witches and Witchcraft http://www.jud.ct.gov/lawlib/history/witches.htm

3. What paranormal activity has been known to happen in England?

There are many paranormal activities that happen in England. Most of them happen in yorktown/ville. For example in York's treasure's house there is a ghost of a horse rider caught on tape. In the York Theatre Royal there is the ghost of a nun often seen. In clifford's tower there is many people that is said to have seen the floor of the tower full of blood then gone. In theYorkshire Museum Library there is evidence that the ghost of an old man has been seen taking books off the shelf and reading information about himself. In York Castle there is someone who claims to have seen a paper change into different animals.

4. Are Spooks real? and if so what are records taken of them?

Spooks are not real. They are just made up in the story. Spooks are just the chills you get when someone is scared. I call my character the spook because as you see him you get spooks everything about him is spooky.

5. Are there any famous haunted places in America?

The history of the Haunted Museum began in the latter years of the 19th Century, a time of adventure and exploration that sent American and British adventurers into the far-flung regions of the world -- and to little known and haunted places within the borders of their own countries. This was the Golden Age of Adventure and Ghost Research, as passionate travelers began to try and decide if the stories they heard were actually true!
So indeed there are places in America that are haunted.

Tom soon gets the hang of it and begins to take a liking towards the spook.Tom and Gregory want to rid the land of all evil activities such as demons, witches, ghouls and boggarts. They pretty much want to do this either because it's a job that fits them knowing that they are the seventh sons of seventh sons or because they just want to make a living. I would probably say it is so because it runs in their blood and they enjoy doing it. They care about staying alive and being able to kill all paranormal activities.

Toms needs more experience from the spook and grimalkin from herself. Grimalkin is very hot tempered and that seems to get to the better of her sometimes so she needs to practice some meditation or something. They will set out to the old abandoned lake which is the place malkin always comes to seek prey, they are sure to attract her. They rage on in battle but something goes wrong malkin is not by herself she brought backup, big backup.

5. Resolution

. After the battle seizes there is an unexpected end. People from the good team and bad team are down but who knows. If it's not tom then who is it? Can it be the spook grimalkin who knows? After the battle everyone also learns something. They realized that even though some people are born as a bad person that doesn't put a lock on their fate. In the story tom comes to realize of two witches that were born and known thoroughout town as evil witches but soon realizes that they are good ones. The first one is not expected it was his mom. When he found that out he was put in a state of shock. Also he already knew Alice his friend was born a witch and plaguerized as one to but was not an evil one. She was malevolent. The characters will try to learn from their mistakes and try to trust eachother better. Because of the spook not trusting alice in the story she was severely hurt. Now they're all together and hoping that they watch what witches they destroy and how they do it.

Book Report Of Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Last Olympian

Percy Jackson, his friends, and the Olympians fight in a war resembling the original war between the Greek gods and the Titans and in a final battle with the powerful Titan, Kronos. Many fight for Olympus, including the Hunters of Artemis, dryads, satyrs, naiads, and tree nymphs, Chiron's centaur cousins the Party Ponies, and the hellhound Mrs. O" Leary. They must defend Mt. Olympus from Kronos' huge army consisting of rogue half-bloods, dracaenae, Hyperboreans, Laestrygonians, drakon, Hyperion, telekhines, Typhon, and hellhounds.

It is revealed that Luke had bathed in the River Styx, thus becoming nearly invincible (much like Achilles). Seeking to defeat Kronos, Percy does the same, with some encouragement from Nico. Rachel, a mortal who can see through the Mist, tells Percy that he is not the hero of the Great Prophecy, and that it will influence his choice when he turns 16.

Percy and his friends fight in a last stand to protect Mount OLympus from the oncoming invasion of Kronos. With many surprises and challenges, Kronos drives the protectors of Olympus to the doors of the Empire State Building. He continues to Mt. Olympus, destroying many of the structures there.

Percy and Luke (who is possessed by Kronos) battle at the top of Mt. Olympus (located above the Empire State Building) in the throne room. Luke is shocked back into his normal self when Annabeth reminds him of his promise that he would never harm her. The Great Prophecy hinges on Percy's decision to give Lukethe dagger rather than kill him. Luke commits suicide by stabbing himself in his mortal pointwhen Kronos takes over his body, becoming the hero of the prophecy and ending the war on Percy's 16th birthday.

The gods grant Percy, Grover, Annabeth, and Tyson rewards at the conclusion of their quest. Percy, refusing godhood for himself, forces the gods to swear on the River Styx that they will recognize all of their children by the time they turn 13. He also requires cabins for Hades and the minor gods to be built at Camp Half-Blood, and that they set Calypso free of her curse.

The Last Apprentice Revenge of The Witch: Book Report

The story begins with Thomas’ dad looking for an apprenticeship for his youngest son. He has lined up a meeting with Old Gregory to take on Thomas. Old Gregory is a Spook, a protector from bogarts, witches, ghasts, and “all manner of wicked beasties.”

Thomas is happy to leave the farm but is a little apprehensive about becoming a Spook. All his life he’s been aware of things moving in the shadows. His oldest brother even jokes about him still sleeping with a candle lit. His mother assures Thomas that this is his destiny. As the seventh son of a seventh son, it will be his job to keep people safe when Old Gregory is no longer able.

So Thomas and the Spook set off on a one-month trial apprenticeship. Before they go too far, Thomas has to pass a test – he has to spend the night alone in a haunted house. It’s creepy, and there is definitely something in the house besides Thomas. But Thomas manages to keep his wits and survives the test, which has a surprising ending.

As his apprenticeship continues, Thomas learns much about bogarts, witches, and girls with pointy shoes. And he has a lot of questions about what happened to the apprentices that came before him. Left alone for a short time, Thomas gets tricked into letting loose the dangerous witch, Old Mother Malkin. But instead of waiting for someone to bail him out of danger, he figures out a way to defeat her on his own. His troubles aren’t over, however. When he heads back home for a brief break, Thomas discovers Old Mother Malkin’s spirit has followed him and he has to protect his family from her evil possession.

The story isn’t graphic, but just creepy enough to make you look over your shoulder or leave the lights on when you’re home alone. I can’t wait to read what adventures Thomas has next. Out of five stars I would give the book a rating of five. I think this book was amazing and would recommend it to everyone I know.

Battle of The Labyrinth Book Review

After reading parts one two and three of the Percy Jackson series I am up to part four, whre the adventure kicks up. The entire story gets extremely exhilarating and makes want to never put the book down. After Percy realizes that is a demi-god his lifde sets course to an entire new level. He is the son of Poseidon and almost everyone's enemy. His old friends Annabeth, Tyson, Grover and Nico are still here. Although,.... Nico is the most popular one in this story out of all. Nico is extremely angry after he found out his sister Bianca is dead after going on a quest with Percy. Nico and Bianca are the children of Hades and unknown to everyone.
The name of the book I am read is called Percy Jackson and the Olympians Battle Of The Labyrinth. The author is Rick Riordan. It is three hundred sixty nine pages long and yet still doesn't have a dull moment to get you bored. The main characters in this part are Annabeth, Grover, Kronos, Nico, Luke and of course Percy Jackson. The setting of the book takes place in America. They travel to several states in the country to do a quest and missions. The entire series and this book itself is about ancient Greek mythology and revolves around the twelve Olympian gods and goddesses as well as their evil and cold hearted father Kronos.
The story begins where Percy starts anew at his new school, Goode High school. from there he is unsurprisingly attacked by two empousa which are the original character from where the vampires come from except scarier. So anyway he is attacked but is helped by a mortal girl that is able to see through the mist and visualize the monsters in front of her perfectly, even better than half bloods. That, is very rare. After that Annabeth catches up to him there and takes him to camp half blood. Everyone at camp and in Mount. Olympus are very stressed about Kronos coming back to laugh but they are still working together. At least a little. When they get back they have a very exciting welcome. As they walk through the swords arena they find a hellhound, but soon realizes that it's a good one and belongs to the new camp activities director Quintus.
This story was told from the perspective of the character Percy Jackson and I think that it's a good idea for that to have happened. I say that because it just sounds right from his point of view. It fits the story and above all the story is almost all about him. I think it sounds good in his perspective because the story is about him and it would sound more interesting if he told it. It'll make the reader feel like he or she is reading an actual diary written by a real person.
A major conflict that takes place in the story is when Percy and his friends have to battle Luke and his crew all by themselves. Camp half blood had only few inmates while Luke's army which was growing stronger as well as in size had over two hundred people. The worst part of it is, is that Kronos was reborn and he himself lead his army to destroy Mount Olympus. Well of course he didn't succeed......yet.
As a result of these issues the story was lead into an entire new point of view. Camp half blood was actually in the lead and was beating Kronos' army badly. Especially with Percy and Annabeth on their team. Percy and the rest of his friends as anyone predicted got out of the labyrinth and were not killed. Well, they can't be killed, they are the main attractions of the book. Kronos' army is getting weaker and doesn't seem so strong now. Surprisingly Kronos' greatest general, Luke is getting ready to betray him. He doesn't like the path he's heading and wants to go back to camp half blood. He also just misses Annabeth and the rest of his pals. He doesn't want to see them get hurt. I could've told that by reading the third book and the beginning of this book.
There wasn't anything left to discover about Percy and his friends since they practically told all their secrets to each other. One of the only things that was very surprising is that Luke is definitely going to change himself back into the good person everyone else knows and loves. Kronos is also beginning to expect that Luke is going to betray him and I predict that he is going to soon organize to kill him. Luckily Percy and Annabeth realizes that and should decide to help him get back. If it wasn't for Annabeth all hope on Luke would've been gone. She had a crush on him and still cared for him up till now.
The climax of the story was when Camp Half Blood is about to go head on towards Kronos' army. In almost every story the climax is where the main characters have a humongous war. This was just another one of those. It was so interesting at this point. I am pretty sure that to just see the climax everyone will be waiting for the movie to come out and hopefully in this movie they will show the amazing climax that they have in the book. One of my favorite parts of this story was when Tyson meets the last Hundred Hander. I find that very interesting because the hundred handers were one of the weapons used against the titans in the war to destroy them. If camp half blood can get this one to fight on their side they might just even the odds of beating Kronos' army. Also the hundred handers are a part of the real Greek myths.
If I could change this book I would change the part where Quintus is the bad person because it's the same in every story. There is always someone close to Percy and in the end they betray him and leave him to fight them off. I think this book could've been different. It would have surprised everyone and make them wonder. Also Percy needs another companion to stay by his side. His friend's list is rapidly decreasing because of the war and the uprising of Kronos. On a scale of one to five stars I would give this book a full five. It deserves it and the other series do to. Few books interest me and this happens to be one of them. I really enjoyed this book and thought it was very interesting and fun to read. I would definitely recommend this book for another person to read. If someone doesn't like reading after reading this book their minds will be sure to change. I hope you enjoyed my book review on Percy Jackson and the Olympians Battle Of The Labyrinth. Also try reading the other parts of the series.

Reading Response

During this adventure Percy, Annabeth and Grover are on a quest helping Clarisse out. They weren't supposed to go but they sneeked out and eventually and cought up with Clarisse. The gang were in the forest hiding from Luke when Percy noticed a snakey figure, it was the hydra. They dodged and swung but couldn't keep it up for long. Soon cannons blasted at it and it went down. Those cannons were from clarisse. She had gotten a gost ship by praying to her father Ares.
Percy from this book reminds me of Harry Potter from all parts of those books. I say that because they are both the most special of a special camp. Percy of camp half blood and Harry Potter of Hogwarts. Of the entire camp they're in they are the most special and mst powerful. Percy because he is the son of one of the big three. Harry because he survived an attack from Voldemolt. From that attack he got a scar which somehow gave him power.

Sea of Monsters 3/18/10
pgs 150-183 45mins

In this adventure Percy and Annabeth gets a bit delayed. They were planning on asking Chiron to go on the quest to save grover and get the golden fleece but there has been a change of plans. Someone thinks that just because Chiron is the son of Kronus he was the one who poisoned Thalia's tree. He gets fired and there is a new camp activities director. A man named Tantalus. Anyway When Percy and Annabeth steps up to him to ask him about the quest he denies. I don't know why he thinks so much of Clarisse but he gave her the quest instead. They need to think of a new plan really fast or Grover will soon be cyclops food to Polyphemus.
I think of this writing as interesting for the most part because I found out Chiron was the son of Kronus. I never knew that and it was a shock for me. Also just because of that why would someone like Chiron betray camp-half-blood. He is relied on and trusted by almost everyone in the camp so I think he wouldn't do such a thing I am surprised to see that they actually fired him just because of suspicion.

Sea of Monsters 3/17/10
pgs 120-150 45 mins

While reading this part of the story Percy had a dream about his best friend grover being trapped with the great cyclops Polyphemus. The cyclops eyesight was very bad after he was stabbed by king Odyuseus so he thought the satyr Grover was a woman cyclops and was going to marry him/her. Somehow Grover was able to talk to Percy and tell him what was going on. The sea of monsters is known to the normal mortals as the Bermuda triangle. Percy was able to find him with the coordinates that the fates or gray sisters gave him. While there Percy had to get the golden fleece, it would restore any thing or person that was hurt. Luke had earlier on poisoned Thalia's tree which was the only protection for demi-gods so Percy was on a quest to get it to save the tree.
By reading this if I were Percy I would really hunt Luke down and kill him. He is trying to bring the titan god Kronus back to life which could destroy the entire earth. He is betraying everyone in the camp that trusted him and who is now at the risk of being attacked by monsters. He poisoned Thalia's tree which was the protection borders of the camp.

The Student Bill of Rights

1.I believe that the most important right is for students to have the right to
: attend school and receive a free public school education from kindergarten to age 21 or receipt of a high school diploma, whichever comes first, as provided by law; students who have been determined to be English Language Learners are entitled to bilingual education or English as a second language program as provided by law; students with disabilities who have been determined to be in need of special education are entitled to a free appropriate public education from age 3 until age 21, as provided by law.
I say that because I think the most important thing a student should ever think about when going to school is actually having the ability to attend school, receive a quality education get they're diploma and and get a good job. This is why I think that this right is the most important.
2. The right that surprised me the most is when they say you have the right to be in a safe and supportive learning environment, free from discrimination, harassment, and bigotry. I say that is foolish in every school I've been to they discriminate people because of the way they look. They do not make school a safe and supporting learning area.
3. I do not think my rights are protected at FDA because this school lies a lot. They say it's supposed to be college preparatory when you are learning forth and fifth grade work in sixth grade. Also this school is known to have a lot of fights and is surely not a safe and supporting learning environment. People at this school are also very discriminative. This school is supposed to be for scholars sometimes I wonder how some kids actually got into this school.

First Draft of My Research Paper

Greek religion is very interesting and has many fascinating things to learn about. For example in this essay I will give information on Greek culture, their religion, their geography and the various arts and sculptures that they crafted. Today the Greeks are known to have been polytheistic which means that they believed in many gods. They however only created the twelve Olympian gods to give reasons for mysterious things that occur in nature. This is why they are called Myths and the topic mythology.

Although the Greeks were very formal with their gods in before the common era nowadays they are supposedly not currently traditional towards their old Olympian gods. Today the greeks most of the Greeks are Christians, Roman Catholics, Muslims, Orthodox Christians and Jews.

Their culture was very fascinating as well. The greeks are known to create many sports known to man today. They created bowling, handball acted in European handball and of made one of the most known sport competitions ever the olympics. Also their cuisine is similar to the different types of food we may eat today. They used to grow the same crops that we do and feast on the same animals as well. The only difference is that they might have prepared it a different way. They also could have used many other spices in their food as well. Their technology as well as their knowledge of food was less than what humans know today. Their clothing varied from ours as well. While we may wear our T-shirts and jeans the Greeks wore togas, tunics and chitons.
However you could only wear these type of clothing if you are a citizen of Greece or Pompeii. The Greeks also had very similar jobs to us other thaan the fact that they practiced wizardry and witchcraft as a job as well. It may seem very unbelievable and strange to us but to them it is perfectly normal. Infact we got most of our jobs from the Greeks.
The Greeks are also famous for the beautiful arts and sculptures they created. It was so amazing it attracted the eye of one of the best artists in the world, Michael Angelo. It is true that the great Michael Angelo had gotten some of his ideas from the varieties of arts from the Greeks. They used limestone, marble and normal stone to make their buildings which is some of the same materials we use today to make our buildings. There were time periods of art in Greece. The most famous was the Mycenaean period. Greek people long ago used to make sculptures most likely to represent a story or emotion. As what people say today " a picture says a thousand words" long ago it would've been "a sculpture says a thousand words."
Athens is the symbol of art, freedom, democracy and the conscience of the civilized world. The geography of Greece wouldn't be identified as Grrece it would be read as Athens. It had taken it's name from the Olympian Godess Athena whom had the power of knowledge and wisdom. She had won the competition against Poseidon to rule the land and had it named after her.

Lesson #7 What is a Hero

#2. Considering the people interviewed I think their knowledge on heroism should be high because they had to struggle to get where they are today. All of them are in high places and have done what we are doing now. They have helped many people so they should know what a hero looks like.

#3. When Bob Kerry says a hero is not made of stone he means you don't have to have muscles and be really strong to be a hero it comes within you.

#6. I was preety surprised that Fred Rogers would be the one to tell what a hero is because he is just a talk show host for little kids. I would say a hero is someone that is brave wise and has a bright conscience.

#3. A hero that I read about is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I look at him as a hero because he was a brave person also wise and fought to for the rights of people. He was so dedicated that he even died doing it.

Lesson #6 Teenage Smoking

#1. The writer chose to introduce this article by giving an example of a teenager who was caught smoking and the penalty for doing it. The author chose to do this because he wanted to show readers an example of a smoking habit and what happens in return of doing it.

#2. The author used a statistic about teen smoking in paragraph two to show that the government is talking it seriously to stop teen smvoking. They want to tell the teens to stop and give them a reason as to why to do it.

#3. The writer helps us understand the meaning of incredulous by telling us what a bad and ridiculous thing Randall did which is the definition of incredulous.

#4. The author dedicated a paragraph saying what happens in smoking court to show readers how serious smoking is and all the confusion you can cause. Also maybe to let readers get an idea of what a smoking court is like.

#5. The effect by including two quotes from teen smokers is to tell smokers what other teen smokers are doing and to make a change in the way they chose to do things.

I would say that the author should use a problem and solution chart because she listed the problems that are occuring and ways that people are trying to fix it.

A graphic organizer that will work for my research question isa Harvard Outline.

Lesson#5 Apealing to Your Audience

#5. Another way that American culture could change due to the growth of hispanics is by getting used to thier food. Some hispanic food are very dilicious and addictive. In places like New York where the hispanic population is high the food will be broad and all over the place. People will soon get accustomed to the food and will keep buying it. Normal American food will fade away a bit and leave space for spanish food.

#1. The author used the word " pops" to describe two meanings. The first one is to show the word latin pop. The second time the author used to word to describe that latin pop music pops like saying the sales have been going up and are getting famous.

#2. The author used specialized vocabulary in this article. He used it to describe very particular spanis thing person or objects. Some spanish things just would not sound right in english so they made spanish conclusions.

#3. This quote by Shakira is included even though she is not the main focus of the article because she is a Latino and that's what the article is about. Famous Latino's. Also because it shows how The latino's are important and how they worked hard to get where they are.

#4. The figurative speech phrase "stars wink and fade out" is relevant because it shows that at first some stars are very famous then later they are forgotten. Just as Marc Anthony is not as famous as he was long ago.

#5. The author might've included the concerns of Esmerelda Santiago even though she is not a singer because she might have reasons for why latin pop got famous and how it didn't. How it decreased and increased. She might be Latino and have some information also.

"The Three Pirates"

In this essay I will describe and compare and contrast three different types of pirates. The mooncussers, link-boys and the buccaneers. These pirates were all famous in tghe seventeen hundreds as well as the eighteen hundreds. They all have something in common and I will find out what that is. The three pirates I learned of from the book are similar an different.
The first pirates are the mooncussers. When the moonlight was not out and it was a pitch black night the mooncusers would go on a shore or sea bank with lamps to guide lost ships into docks. Unfortunately for the sailors as soon as they came close to the sharp rocks the mooncussers would take off the lamp and the sailors would crash. Afterward they would raid the crashed ships and take anything valuable. They were more like land pirates and mass murderers to me.
The second pirates were link-boys. They were just more like thieves rather than a pirate. But by the definition they are a pirate. They did their evil plots at night. They would go lokking for lost citizens or tourists and when they found some the link-boys would ensure them of a safe way home and directions. When they were on their way the link-boys took them to a passage way where they had a few pf their friends waiting in the bushes ready to rob them. They would be robbed but not killed. When there were no people outside that were lost flung an oath at the moon just as when there were no ships to raid the mooncussers would curse at the moon.
The third pirates were buccaneers. They were mainly sea pirates and very popular. Everyone knew the buccaneer BlackBeard but now people know of a far more greater pirate, Flint. The buccaneers traveled the seas boarding the ships of other pirates and stealing their loot. They would fight eachother and often many people were killed. The buccaneers would also kill fishermen and take their fish as food. These pirates were very vicious, mean, bloodthirsty and very skilled.
I think that these pirates were common criminals because surely they were not romantic figures. Also they were very famous and common during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. But of course they were very dangerous criminals. The buccaneers and mooncussers are similar because they both kill people. Buccaneers would kill fellow pirates and fishermen. The mooncussers would crash the sailors ships and kill them. They both kill people. The link-boys would just rob people but not kill them.
In conclusion These are the three main pirates of the early centuries. They were all vicious and dangerous. We have pirates nowadays but they cannot compare to the three types of pirates I wrote about. Above all the three types of pirates are all similar in one way. They do what they do for money or back then the loot or gold.

Lesson#4 Coping With Conflict

#3. I think what changed them from the worst sixth grade class to the best freshman class is that they stopped giving rude remarks, they started to have better behaviour, they probably stopped fighting and bringing weapons in school if they did. What matters most is that they thought about what could happen if they stopped being bad. The benefits.

#5. Chess and checkers might teach kids to control impulsive behaviour because those games requires patience and concentration. It will help kids to control thier impulsive behaviour and start having good behaviour.

#6. I think the actions adults could use to prevent conflicts among children is to know more information about them and spend more time with them. They should find out where they go what they do and when they are coming back. They should also spend more quality time with thier kids so that they could get the love and affection they need to motivate them to do better.

#1. The writer chose to introduce this article to show what happens when when kids fight and that it could result to death. My interest in the article would not change at all because I already know what can happen when kids fight and that it could result to death.

#2. I think the statistic used in the second paragraph is either compare and contrast or conflict and resolution. I think the author uses it tell the reader how things happen and what happens at the end of it. Also why it happens and how you should solve it.

#3. It describes that the kids were bad and there was no sign of hope until the principle organized a program that will help improve the behaviour of the kids. the topic of this paragraph is that no matter how bad you are you can always start to be good and improve. The details support this because it shows how bad the kids were and that they brought weapons to school but just because of a program that was made the kids started to be good.

#4. In the forth paragraph the author show that the kids realises thier mistake and and feels bad about it. It shows that the kids want to change. Readers need to read this information so that they could understand the third paragraph as well as seeing how a person could change.

#5. The author combined a statement about bullying as well as suggestions to prevent violent attacks to show not to hit back maybe. Also it shows that when a person is troubled by a bully then they might get disturbed and act just like the bully.

I think that the author of the article could've interviewed the principle and teachers of the school for information on the topic. I say the principle because he organizes programs to help the students behaviour. I picked the teacher because they see the students behaviour in class and should now how to fix it.

For my reasearch article I would like to interview Roger Bagnall a greek and roman expert and Ms Murchio our school latin teacher also Brigitte Bedos-Rezak a midieval expert and greek scientist. I would also like to interview Markus Asper.

The Last Orangutans ( article questions)

#3: I think that the author introduced the plight of the orangutans before mentioning Gladikas because they wanted to tell the reader how the life of the orangutans were before Gladikas stepped in and after.

#4: The details that show that Gladika is motivated by more than a scientific curiosity about orangutans is when the author mentions that she was inspired by a famous paleontologist named Louis Leakey to spend her entire life among nonhuman primates.

#5: Over in the west of America and long ago Native Americans would kill buffaloes and use parts of their bodies as resources. They would use use their skin to make coats and clothing, their meat as food and bone as tools. Sometime in the mid-1800's there was sayings of the buffalo going into extinction which mean the buffalo would be no more. Right now in the year 2010 the buffalo is an endangered species. Because of the carelessness of killing the buffaloes there was a massive decrease in it's population. The point of this paragraph was to explain not to abuse animals or things. Appreciate what you have because when it's gone a part of your life will be incomplete. Animals just as humans lives a life. If you would'nt want to hurt a family member or friend then why hurt animals. It is the same thing as killing a human being.

Hunger in Haiti increasing rapidly

LinkedinDiggFacebookMixxMySpaceYahoo! BuzzPermalinkPORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Hunger bashed in the front gate of Haiti's presidential palace. Hunger poured onto the streets, burning tires and taking on soldiers and police. Hunger sent the country's prime minister packing.

Haiti's hunger, that burn in the belly that so many here feel, has become fiercer than ever in recent days as global food prices spiral out of reach, spiking as much as 45 percent since the end of 2006 and turning Haitian staples such as beans, corn and rice into closely guarded treasures.

Saint Louis Meriska's children ate two spoonfuls of rice apiece as their only meal two days ago and then went without any food the following day. His eyes downcast, his own stomach empty, the unemployed father said forlornly, "They look at me and say, 'Papa, I'm hungry,' and I have to look away. It's humiliating and it makes you angry."

That anger is palpable across the globe. The food crisis not only is being felt among the poor, but also is eroding the gains of the working and middle classes, sowing volatile levels of discontent and putting new pressures on fragile governments.

In Cairo, the military is being put to work baking bread as rising food prices threaten to become the spark that ignites wider anger at a repressive government. In Burkina Faso and other parts of sub-Saharan Africa, food riots are breaking out like never before. And in reasonably prosperous Malaysia, the ruling coalition was nearly ousted by disgruntled voters who cited food and fuel hikes as their primary concerns.

"It's the worst crisis of its kind in more than 30 years," said Jeffrey Sachs, the economist and special adviser to the United Nations secretary general, Ban Ki Moon. "It's a big deal, and it's obviously threatening a lot of governments. There are a number of governments on the ropes and I think there's more political fallout to come."

Indeed, as it roils developing nations, the spike in commodity prices - the biggest since the administration of Richard Nixon - has pitted the globe's poorer south against the relatively wealthy north, adding to demands for reform of rich nations' farm and environmental policies.

But experts say there are few quick fixes to a crisis tied to so many factors, such as strong demand for food from emerging economies like China's; rising oil prices; and the diversion of food resources to make biofuels.

There are no scripts on how to handle the crisis, either. In Asia, governments are putting in place measures to limit hoarding of rice after some shoppers panicked at price rises and bought up everything they could.

Even in Thailand, which produces 10 million more tons of rice than it consumes and is the world's largest rice exporter, supermarkets have placed signs limiting the amount of rice shoppers are allowed to buy.

"This is a perfect storm," President Elias Antonio Saca of El Salvador said Wednesday at the World Economic Forum on Latin America in CancĂșn, Mexico. "How long can we withstand the situation? We have to feed our people and commodities are becoming scarce. This scandalous storm might become a hurricane that could upset not only our economies, but also the stability of our countries."

In Asia, if Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi of Malaysia steps down, which is looking increasingly likely amid post-election turmoil within his party, he may be that region's first high-profile political victim of fuel and food price inflation.

In Indonesia, fearing protests, the government recently revised its 2008 budget, increasing the amount it will spend on food subsidies by 2.7 trillion rupiah, or about $280 million.

"The biggest concern is food riots," said H.S. Dillon, a former adviser to the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture. Referring to small but widespread protests sparked by a rise in soybean prices in January, he said, "It has happened in the past and can happen again."

Last month in Senegal, one of Africa's oldest and most stable democracies, police officers in riot gear beat and used tear gas against people protesting high food prices and later raided a television station that broadcast images of the event.

Journal Entry #5

September 23rd, 1963

Today was Sunday and Joetta has to go to Sunday school. After she left with a couple of neighbours, everyone else fell back asleep. We soon awoke to a giant BOOM! I instantly knew something had blown up somwhere. I put on my pants and ran outside bare footed. When I got around the block I realized that the same church Joey goes to Sunday school in just blew up. I was so shocked that I was paralized. My mouth flew open and I couldn't move. I just thought about Joey. Soon, out of the blue I saw Kenny running. I wasn't paralyzed and could move. I ran after wondering where he was going. It was home. What was he going home for. When I got inside and looked around I saw Kenny and Joetta talking. I hoped the two of them didn't see what I saw. Apparentely they did. They were talking about the four little girls who were lying down in the grass. It didn't take much brains to know that they were dead. I ran back to the blown up church and brought mom and dad home. We were happy that we were safe but we were also star struck bhy what just went on. I knew it had to be some white folks that were moving along with the segregation of black people.

Journal Entry #4

Septemer 21st, 1963

Kenny has been itching in his pants to go for a swim in the beach and today he heard about one. Grandma Sands has been talking about a not so far beach from here that is nice and cool for us kids. She also claims " to be careful not to go in Collier's landing or you'll die just like the poor old soul of a boy that drowned from a dangerous WOOL POOH." She actually means whirl pool but because of her country accent she talks like that. Kenny is a dumb as a door knob and thinks that the " wool pooh" is actually a monster in the water that will come and drag you down till yeh drown. He is scared but he also wants to try the cool blue water in the river. We all go down with the annoyin princess Joey and Kenny makes us visit Collier's landing. I get tired and say " let's go" Kenny hesitates and stays behind. I purposely forget about him and leave him behind. All of a sudden I hear Kenny screaming for momma.I ran as fast as I could and saw Kenny stuck in a whirl pool and drowning. I dived in and pulled him out. When we were back on land we were both panthing because of what just happened. I just realized how much my brother meant to me. I am still angry that it took a dying moment of his to make me realize this.

Journal Entry #3

September 19th, 1963

we arrived in Alabama at about eleven thirty in the morning. Momma was right it was burning hot here. I was in the car and sweating "a mile a minute." The sun was glistening in the sky and water was coming down my face. We reached Grandma Sands's hose and honked the horn. It took a while but soon a scrunny looking woman made of completely bones opened the door. Momma really happy ran out of the car and squeezed the life out of the poor lady. Out of everyone I was the only one who was mad, after all I had to stay with the strict old lady for the rest of the vacation while momma and the rest of the family go have fun after they leave me here to suffer. Alabama was real hot but in Flint it was real cold. I remember the old saying " it is better to be to hot than to cold." You can die in the cold but have fun in the hot. I wish I was in the cold because I would rather die than stay with Grandma Sands. So far I find Grndma sands real annoying but she aint as strict as I tought she would be. It looks like she's just gonna wait till I decide to behave good but I could've done that in Flint. It makes no sense me being here stuck up with these here brats.

Journal Entry #2

September 17th, 1963

We woke up around five in the morning and left in the Brown Bomber. Momma packed tons of food in the cooler we borrowed from the neighbour and had the entire trip planned out in her little blue notebook. She had all all the events that was going to take place, where we slept when we ate and so on. It started to get annoying. I was already pissed off by Grandma Sands and now momma is annoying me with her stupid brown book with a bird in front of it that was supposed to be a flower. It felt like she was writing down how we were supposed to live, almost as if my entire life was in a book. Luckily the only Earthly person in the car dad ignolred momma's preperations and almost drove the entire way non-stop without stopping. My destiny to live with Grandma Sands was sadly almost here.

Journal Entry #1

September 15, 1963

I am pissed off just because I did something wrong momma is pushing me off and sending me by someone I only met once in my entire life Grandma Sands. Momma and Dad have kept talking about how strict Grandma Sands is and she'll have me as stright as a needle. To keep me from going to Alabama to stay by grandma I made a plan with Buphead. The plan is that the night before we leave I will sneak out and leave that night. Darn! Someone snitched and I got busted. Momma didn't tell me that but I used common sense to figure it out. She said " Byron sinse this might as well be your last day in flint I tought you and Kenny Would like to sleep in our room tonight." She caught on and worse I had to sleep with the world's most annoying brother Kenny.

Byron Is A Juvenile Delinquent !!!!

Byron has always happened to be the juvenile delinquent of a brother. He has constantly proven himself not to be part of the family and will do whatever it may take to seem cool. To be known as cool, Byron takes his family's trust away.In this essay I will explain why I think of Byron as a juvenile delinquent and an insolent child. My first reason is that he treats his little brother like garbage. For example when he says " Get the hell out of here, what you starin at? Them apples got me sick you little cross eyed punk." Byron is yelling at Kenny because of something that he found amusing and laughed at.
Also when he said " Give my regards to Clark Poindexter" Everyone teased Kenny and called him Poindexter because of his lazy eye, and now his own brother is joining in the fun. " Leave the little clown alone Byron said. It's a crying shame taking him around like a circus freak. " Byron was insulting his brother in front of the entire class. After Kenny hears this he might consider if Byron is actually his brother or a circus freak.
Byron is also very violent. " By had knocked a bird right out of the sky." Just to entertain Kenny, Byron threw a rock and injured a bird. By seeing this you can realize that to get on top , or seem cool to someone he would even hurt a living thing." " He punched me in the arm." Just because Kenny had gotten on the wrong side of Byron , he had punched Kenny in the shoulder. Byron is bigger than Kenny and his punches would hurt him allot. This information revealed to me that Byron was a little mad and punched Kenny , if he were furious then maybe some disturbing things would happen. The most important detail was when Byron had disobeyed his mom's orders and played with fire in the house! If something were to go wrong then the entire house would've caught fire. More likely for the whole family to get hurt.
Byron is also naturally mean. When he tries to be nice he still is mean. For example, Kenny said " I'm sorry By." Byron follows it with " Shut up and cry if you want." Instead of saying that he could've said, " you could cry you know, I won't laugh. That would've been much nicer. When Kenny was crying and feeling very shameful, all Byron could say was " I told you the only thing I was fighting in the water was your stupid little behind." Byron could've at least been nicer with the depression Kenny had.
In conclusion I still say Byron is a juvenile delinquent and cannot be nice. If he tries to be nice he is being mean instead. Violence and hatred is in his blood. All he cares about is himself and it took a dying moment to realize that Kenny was his little brother. Byron is a juvenile delinquent and will do whatever it takes even if he has to hurt his family to look cool. He insulted his little brother in front of the entire class just to look cool to his friend "Buphead." Byron is truly a juvenile delinquent.
